Weekend trip to Iowa

So, the girls and I made an impromptu trip to Iowa this past weekend. A friend that I have known all my life got married Saturday, and Tuesday night I told Casey that I was going. I decided (completely last minute!) that I couldn't miss it for anything! I knew that if I did, I would surely regret it, so I went. The plan was that I was only going to take Leah, but then Casey couldn't take 2 days off work, and we didn't have anyone to watch her, so she ended up going too. No one knew that she was going until we were on the road. She would have been upset if she hadn't been able to go, so I guess it worked out.
They both did really well in the car, which was surprising. I was sure Leah would throw a fit most of the way, but I was very happy that she only screamed a couple times. She did throw up about 30 minutes after we left the house, so I had to pull over and completely change her clothes. And then I was giving her lots of fluids because I wasn't sure why she threw up, and I didn't change her diaper until North Platte and that was a mistake! I took her out of her seat and her bottom was soaking wet...so, I had to change her clothes AGAIN! Ugh! And then by the time we got into the line at subway, we had to wait forever because a couple vans of school kids pulled up and got into line before us. It took us SO long!!! And then Jacqueline ate slow too, so that wasn't good.
We got to my parents house around 8:45 that night, which was a little under 12 hours of travel time... definitely not the best we have done before, but with two girls and one parent, I guess you could say it was good. The next day I went to DSM for some quiet time and got a mani/pedi, and my mom took the girls, then we all crammed into cars and drove to the wedding, which with travel, the wedding and reception, it was a whole day event. It was so much fun and I'm SOOOOO happy that I went, even though we were in the car so much and the girls hardly slept on Saturday - Jac slept a little in the car on the way up, and Leah only slept a little at the reception, and then both were awake until about the last half hour on the way back to my sister's, which was a 2 hour drive and we didn't get home until 11 pm! Crazy kids! It was a long, weary day, and by the end of it, I was ready to sleep. :)
On Sunday, we went to church, then out to lunch with my Omi, and then the kids played at the park. It was good for the kids because they don't get to spend much time with Aunt Michelle and Uncle David. We swung by Ali's for an hour-ish, and saw her and Mimi, which was lots of fun, and Jacqueline had a blast! Then it was back to my parents for dinner with my brother Michael, and off to bed.
We left Redfield at about 8 on Monday morning, and stopped for lunch at a rest stop, which I kept short - about 20 minutes, and we were home by 5:30, which was 10 1/2 hours of travel time. Woohoo! Cut an hour off with not stopping at fast food and also, not letting Jac dawdle with eating. (She ate her peaches at the rest stop, and then ate most of her cut-up hot dogs and carrots in the car, so that may become the usual travel food - the big people can get stuff to eat in the car, but limit what the little ones have to make sure it's car friendly so you can keep driving. :))

On the baby front, things were good. Matthew commented that my belly is huge for still having 6 months to go, but really, where else but out am I going to go?! I need to remember to walk more on stops, but other than an achy lower back, I think the trip was great!
